NORTH CAROLINA, USA — North Carolina lottery players could see their Labor Day turn life-changing as Monday night’s Powerball jackpot climbs to an estimated $1.1 billion.

The jackpot ranks as the fifth largest in the game’s history. A winner could choose to collect the prize as a $1.1 billion annuity or take home $498.4 million in cash, North Carolina Education Lottery officials said .

It is the biggest jackpot since April 6, 2024, when a player in Oregon won $1.3 billion.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million. Buying multiple tickets doesn’t significantly improve the chances, but lottery officials remind players it only takes one ticket to win.

Each drawing offers nine ways to win, so players are encouraged to check their numbers closely, lottery officials said.
