Miami football earned a huge win in thrilling fashion to kick off its 2025 season on Sunday, Aug. 31, defeating No. 5 Notre Dame 27-24 at home.
The No. 10 Hurricanes forced two turnovers and had an efficient performance offensively, as first-year transfer Carson Beck completed 20 of 30 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in his first start at Miami. Six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown went to 17-year-old true freshman Malachi Toney, who emerged as a potential future star for the Hurricanes.
Notre Dame, once down 21-7, didn’t go down easy, however, as it scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, finding offensive momentum that wasn’t there in the first three quarters of the game. Redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr, making his first-career start, completed 19 of 30 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a score.
Miami looked the part in its season opener, and appears to be a true contender for both the ACC championship and College Football Playoff.
