Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem lashed out at CBS on Sunday over the way the network edited her most recent interview.
Noem joined CBS host Ed O'Keefe on "Face the Nation" on Sunday morning to discuss President Donald Trump's immigration policies. After the interview, Noem accused the network of trying to bury what she had to say about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a high-profile migrant who the Trump administration has tried to deport twice.
Noem shared her thoughts on social media after the interview.
"This morning, I joined CBS to report the facts about Kilmar Abrego Garcia," Noem posted from her official X account. Instead, CBS shamefully edited the interview to whitewash the truth about this MS-13 gang member and the threat he poses to American public safety."
"Watch for the part of my interview that @CBS tried to cover up," the post continued.
The part of the interview that Noem pointed out was the claims that she made against Abrego Garcia. Noem repeated claims that he is an MS-13 gang member, a claim that the Trump administration knows is untrue, and that he has committed a wide range of other crimes.
Noem's comments come at a time when the Trump administration is attempting to remove Abrego Garcia and thousands of other migrants from the country expeditiously. The courts have routinely ruled against the administration's efforts, arguing that they do not give migrants a meaningful opportunity to defend themselves.
Trump has previously accused companies like Paramount Global and Disney, which own ABC and CBS, respectively, of deceptively editing video footage to help Democrats. This year, both networks paid a total of $31 million to settle legal claims filed by the president.
