TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — 17-year-old Katelynn Strate , who was seven months pregnant and shot in the head during a road-rage incident in Tangipahoa Parish, has died.

Strate's baby was delivered through an emergency C-section.

"Her 28-week-old baby continues to do well under medical care," TPSO said.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, a Ford Expedition and a Dodge pickup truck were tailgating and brake-checking each other on North Hoover Road in Ponchatoula when the driver of the truck fired a single shot on Sunday.

Deputies say the shot struck Strate as she sat in the front passenger seat of the Ford.

The suspect, identified as Barry West, was arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. His charges have been upgraded to include one count of second-degree
