Four small wildfires were discovered on Vancouver Island Sunday following an active lightning storm that moved across the region.
The most notable is the Dunsmuir Creek fire, burning southwest of Nanaimo near Green Mountain.
The blaze, discovered Sunday afternoon, is currently listed as being 0.1 hectares in size and classified as out of control. The BC Wildfire Service says the suspected cause is lightning.
Three other small fires were detected Sunday morning in the Strathcona Provincial Park area, about 45 kilometres southwest of Campbell River. Each is currently estimated at just 0.01 hectares and classified as out of control, with one fire near the Gold River Highway being chalked up to lightning, while the causes of the other two remain under investigation.
