Campbell River RCMP says multiple people have reported receiving scam texts pretending to be from ICBC recently, and is advising people to be cautious.
The texts say that the recipient has failed to pay for outstanding tickets, and that potential restrictions on their driver’s licence or insurance may be imposed.
RCMP says the texts are “completely fraudulent” and appear to come from an international phone number.
“These kinds of scams have become more common and many people end up being duped,” said Const. Maury Tyre of the Campbell River RCMP.
