Seniors in the Cowichan Valley are warning others after a drastic increase in a bill that went unnoticed cost them thousands of dollars.
Laughter, and games of shuffleboard and carpet bowling filled the Valley Seniors Organization in Duncan on Thursday, as the social club run on a shoestring budget, by volunteers, resolved a minor funding crisis.
“It means everything. I don’t have a spouse, so this is the next best thing for socializing,” said 92-year-old Joan Ayers.
“We’re the only place in the Cowichan Valley that offers so much for the seniors,” said Claudia Parker, a volunteer in the kitchen.
