Every school has a flagpole. It tells you which way the wind blows.
Not every school, however, has a rooftop weather station that tells you a lot more. At Strawberry Vale Elementary, that high-tech weathervane has seen better days.
“This one isn’t working right now. It needs to be repaired,” says former BC Green leader and retired UVic climate scientist Andrew Weaver. “I haven’t investigated what the problem is.”
Weaver says it’s a simple fix. But he’s no longer the one shimmying up ladders to do it.
“I really can’t be clambering up school roofs. There are pictures of me sitting on the edge of the Vic High roof,” he laughs. “I just can’t do that anymore.”
