You may know by now that Qantas has grown its order book of Airbus A321XLRs to 48. Some 16 of these will also add lie-flat business seats and seatback entertainment, with the first frame in this configuration due to be delivered in 2028. It comes a month after Etihad Airways' first A321LR (it does not have the XLR) entered commercial service , with its seats including two first-class suites and 14 fully flat business beds.

Qantas' 16 XLRs with this layout mean a proper long-haul narrowbody product will be available, which obviously goes together with longer international missions. While they'll be flown from various hubs, Perth and Adelaide, which is the country's fifth-busiest airport , have been singled out to have some routes.
