LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Malvern School District announced on Sunday that one of its staff members was killed in a car crash.

A report from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said that Mark Freer had hit a guardrail while traveling on the highway Saturday night when his car overturned into a creek.

The school district made a Facebook post about Freer, saying that he was loved by both staff and students.

"It is with heavy hearts that the Malvern School District announces the passing of our colleague, friend, and football coach, Mark Freer," the district said. "Coach Freer was well loved by both staff and students. He was a true friend to everyone around him, and he dedicated himself to teaching lessons of character, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance to the students around him.
