SHOSHONE — Three people sustained minor injuries Sunday afternoon after a bridge collapsed at a local ice cave.

Apparently, a bolt snapped on the bridge at about 5:45 p.m., causing sightseers to fall about 2.5 feet onto the ice below inside Shoshone Ice Caves north of Shoshone, said Lincoln County Sheriff Rene King.

Everyone was out of the cave by the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, King said. He was unsure how many people were on the bridge at the time it gave way.

One of the victims, with suspected broken ribs, was flown to a local hospital, he said. Several agencies responded to the rescue effort.

A call to the Shoshone Ice Caves was not immediately returned.
