The College Football Playoff is still a long way away, but there was still plenty of action in Week 1 that could come into consideration at the end of the season.

Ohio State already got a signature win by shutting down Arch Manning and Texas in Columbus. Brian Kelly and LSU got their season started with a comeback win over Clemson . Alabama went to Tallahassee and got more than it asked for. The Crimson Tide trailed Florida State for most of the afternoon and lost by two scores. Miami won a squeaker against Notre Dame . And Boise State , coming off a CFP appearance, was blown out 34-7 by South Florida .

Some teams handled their business. Penn State , Georgia , Arizona State , Michigan and Florida all won handily.
