Wildfire smoke has a chokehold on Edmonton area as it settles in until at least Tuesday, triggering multiple warnings and alerts for public safety.
The City of Edmonton activated its extreme weather response for poor air quality Sunday night, with Environment Canada issuing an air quality warning earlier in the day as its index reached the dark zone of 10-plus or very high risk to health.

The Edmonton smoke response, launched at 7 p.m. Sunday, is intended to help keep vulnerable people safe during the high risk air quality expected over the coming days, the city said in a Sunday night release. The city effort to mitigate risks is expected to end 9 a.m. Wednesday but may be extended if poor air quality conditions continue.
