SOMERVILLE, Tenn. - More than 50 years after the murder of a sheriff's wife, authorities announced a major development in the case.

District Attorney Mark Davidson said that state authorities now believe former McNairy County Sheriff Buford Pusser, who inspired the movie "Walking Tall," murdered his wife, Pauline Pusser, in 1967.

"It's been said that the dead can not cry out for justice. It's the duty of the living to do so. In this case, that duty has been carried out 58 years later," Davidson said.
