GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Some new artwork is on display at the Grand Island Veteran’s Cemetery.

The artwork was created by artist Matthew Placzek, who grew up in Grand Island. The artwork includes statues of a soaring eagle at the southwest corner of the grounds near the intersection of Capital Ave. and Webb Rd. and a soldier with a folded flag at the entrance.

Don Shuda, Chair of the Hall County Hero Fight Program said these additions and the addition of a tower in the next year, will make the Cemetery stand out in the Grand Island community.

“This cemetery is not only going to be the pride of Nebraska, but the pride of the nation,” Shuda said. “We’ll have a tower installed, a 40-foot tower installed next year, so it’s just a blessing to be a small part of this project.“
