SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Public Safety is urging drivers to "Sleep Smart, Drive Smart."

Over the last five years, drowsy driving has claimed 30 lives and caused nearly 1,000 crashes per year on Utah roadways. The Utah Highway Safety Office said teens and males under 29 are particularly at risk and are the focus of their awareness efforts.

According to officials, more than 520 drowsy-driving-related crashes have already occurred on Utah roads in 2025. They are urging all drivers, especially those who work long hours or long trips, to check in with themselves before getting behind the wheel.
