COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Ohio State football player was arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting and strangling his girlfriend this week, court records say.

Michael Roen McCullough is charged with one felony count of strangulation, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded around 9 p.m. on Friday regarding a domestic violence incident in the 100 block of Marconi Boulevard .

An officer interviewed a woman who said she and McCullough were driving home in his vehicle around 9:30 a.m. the previous morning, according to an affidavit.

Court documents say the woman — McCullough's reported girlfriend — alleged they began arguing and McCullough broke her cell phone, punched her in the face multiple times and grabbed her
