With the new season approaching, we catch up with Resident Music Director Kevin White to learn why he prefers being off stage than on and what is his favorite chord in musical theater

When the anticipated 500-seat Dr. Stacie J. and Richard J Stephenson Theatre makes its debut with The Phoenix Theatre Company’s new season in October, expect many new looks and sounds.

That includes, for the first time at the longtime theater, an understage orchestra pit for the live musicians who add the emotional weight of scores to each production.

The accompaniment, led by Resident Music Director Kevin White, has always been heard, of course, whether seen or unseen. White knows that’s part of the magic.
