The 2019 track has officially become the first song in Spotify’s history to hit a whopping five billion streams. Just days earlier, it landed on Billboard’s Top Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs of the 21st Century chart. 11

Spotify announced the news over the long weekend.

“On August 31st, 2025, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” became the first song to reach 5 billion streams on Spotify,” the streaming giant captioned its post .

The Weeknd, 35, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, took a moment to celebrate his history-making accomplishment with his 78 million followers. 11
