TAMA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Tama County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of scammers posing as deputies and demanding payment from victims.
The sheriff’s office said in this scam, the scammer calls the victim posing as a Tama County deputy. Then the scammer demands payment of $22,000 for a supposed bail payment.
Officials are reminding the public that no law enforcement agency will contact someone directly and demand money. Anyone who receives a phone call like this should hang up immediately.
