Of the seven city council seats in Hoover, five have been set, while two races are going to a runoff. Four incumbents will return. Two, Steve McClinton and Casey Middlebrooks, did not have opposition, while Kristi Driver and Derrick Murphy easily fended off their opposition.

The most successful candidate facing opposition this cycle, according to election results, wasn't an incumbent. The Hoover Channel's Robin Schultz, who ran for Place 1, got 10,819 votes.

Two seats remain, with Place 2 being vacated by Sam Swiney, pitting Kenneth Cox against Gene Smith. Cox is touting his experience as a coach and leader within the Leadership Hoover program, while Smith is offering to bring decades of institutional knowledge and leadership back to the council.
