FARGO — The band is getting back together. Well, sort of.

North Dakota State and UC Davis, two programs who made the Division I transition together over 20 years ago, announced a home-and-home football agreement on Monday. NDSU will host the Aggies in 2028 and the Bison will open the 2029 season on the northern California campus.

The Bison and Aggies first played as Division I schools in 2004, with the Bison taking a 25-7 win in the last game of the season. That was the first year of the configured Great West Football Conference consisting mostly of NCAA transitioning members. NDSU was unranked and Davis was No. 20 in the Division I-AA (now FCS) poll at the time, a win that prevented the Aggies from a share of the Great West title.

That set the stage for later battles.
