ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - This Labor Day, instead of celebrating with the usual barbecues and parades, a group of residents gathered in Alexandria to protest, speaking out against what they call a “billionaire takeover” of America.

Chants filled the streets as people held signs calling for better wages, affordable housing, stronger protections for working families and a government that puts regular people first. For these demonstrators, the holiday was not just a day off; it was a chance to demand real change.

“The peaceful protest is basically just the fact that we’re not happy with the way things are going,” Protester Marty Floyd said. “My ancestor signed the Declaration of Independence, so he’s rolling in his grave right now, the way this country is changing.”
