An 8-year-old boy from Vaughn died after he flipped over the handlebars of the four-wheeler he was driving and was then run over by the vehicle, the Montana Highway Patrol said Monday.
The incident was reported 7 p.m. Saturday in Judith Basin County near Neihart, the MHP said.
The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was westbound on a Honda TRX680FA on Butcher Knife Divide at Oti Park Road when he applied the brakes. He flipped over the handlebars, hit his head on some rocks and the vehicle drove over him, the MHP said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Road conditions were rocky and muddy, authorities said.
