LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Every February, Laredo hosts the largest birthday celebrations for George Washington in the country.

It features colonial gowns and even hugs exchanged in the middle of the bridge. It’s a unique celebration that brings together the border and the founding fathers.

Organized each year by the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA), the festival is known far and wide for its beauty and, above all, its patriotism.

WBCA Assistant Executive Director Nino Cardenas stated, “We wanted to celebrate a historical figure that embodies what this country is all about, and being the first president and father of the country, who better than to celebrate George Washington. At the end of the day, we do it for the love of our country.”
