Iwas pleased to see the “rural and migrant ministry’s journey of empathy caravan” highlighted in the paper recently (Aug. 5). New York hosts tens of thousands of seasonal agricultural workers who are admitted through H-2a temporary seasonal employment work visas every year. There is no statutory cap on the number of this type of visa which can be issued each year and employers should be encouraged to avail themselves of this program. It ensures that the temporary seasonal workers will be paid a living wage, provided with decent housing, the protection of labor laws, including safe working conditions, and otherwise be protected from exploitation.
