Government Street shooting leaves one dead, injures second

An early-morning shooting on Government Street Monday resulted in the death of one man and injuries to another, police say.

According to an announcement from the Baton Rouge Police Department, a dark colored sedan pulled alongside Roderick Forkner, 19, and another man around 3 a.m. Monday on the 5000 block of Government Street at South Foster Drive.

Forkner and the unnamed man were shot at and taken to a local hospital, where Forkner later succumbed to the gunshot injuries.

The second unnamed victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the release stated.
