In the next two weeks, state lawmakers in Austin may pass controversial proposals on bathrooms and abortion pills. Now that much of the work is complete on redistricting and flood recovery, lawmakers return to more partisan fights after a Labor Day Break.
Coming off a similar law in 2021, the Texas House already has approved House Bill 7, which will allow people to file lawsuits against those who make and distribute abortion-inducing medication.
“Members know this. These pills that are being shipped into Texas are illegal under Texas law. We’re not changing that. That is current law,” said Rep. Jeff Leach on the House floor.
