BROWNTON — A four-run first inning was all Carter Petron needed to pitch the Pierz Lakers to the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Class C State Championship Sunday, Aug. 31.

Petron pitched all seven innings of the 11-1 seven-inning victory over the Le Sueur Braves. He struck out six, walked two and gave up one unearned run on four hits.

Pierz posted four runs in the first inning off Le Sueur starter Sam Gupton. The scoring burst started when Chase Becker opened the game by reaching on an error. Ryan Chmielewski laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Becker to second. With two outs, Preston Rocheleau reached on another error. Carter Petron walked to load the bases. Brady Petron then reached on another error to score Becker. David Kroger doubled to score three runs and put Pierz up 4-0.
