MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - On Sunday, months after Ed the Zebra escaped, many people thought there was a new “escaped” animal to be on the lookout for in Rutherford County.

A donkey, named Mateo, was seen strolling around Murfreesboro.

According to his owner, Heather Bowman, he took advantage of an open gate.

“My fiancé and I had just gotten off a 24-hour shift with Rutherford County EMS, so we were a little slower than usual,” Bowman said.

As Mateo strolled, Bowman jogged down St. Andrews beside him.

According to Bowman, Mateo loves attention and has quite a personality.

Bowman said he was a Christmas gift from her fiancé.

In addition to a donkey, Bowman said they have many other animals, including chickens,
