Graham Greene, a celebrated Canadian actor, has died at the age of 73. His management team confirmed that he passed away on Monday in Stratford, Ontario, after a long illness. Greene was recognized earlier this year with a Governor General’s Award for lifetime artistic achievement.
Born in Ohsweken, Ontario, Greene was a member of the Six Nations Reserve. He gained fame for his role as Kicking Bird, a Sioux medicine man, in the 1990 film "Dances With Wolves," which was directed by and starred Kevin Costner. This performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Greene's career spanned nearly five decades, during which he appeared in numerous films, television shows, and theater productions. His recent work included a role in the upcoming comedy thriller "Seeds," which won him a Canadian Screen Award, and the FX series "Reservation Dogs."
In addition to his Oscar nomination, Greene was honored with the Order of Canada in 2015. His agent, Michael Greene, expressed deep sorrow over his passing, stating, "He was a great man of moral ethics and character and will be eternally missed."
Greene's extensive filmography also includes notable roles in the action film "Die Hard: With a Vengeance," the drama "The Green Mile" alongside Tom Hanks, and the western comedy "Maverick."
His manager, Gerry Jordan, confirmed that Greene died of natural causes. Details regarding a memorial celebration will be announced in the coming days.
