BEAUMONT, Texas — The Texas Energy Museum in downtown Beaumont remains closed after a major water leak in early July caused more than $100,000 in damage, city officials said.

The leak began overnight in the museum’s second-floor craft room and flooded into the lower level, damaging hardwood floors, ceiling tiles and perimeter walls. Crews have been working since July to remove flooring, ceilings and walls while testing for mold and asbestos.

“When we walked in, since it was a second floor leak, it was raining downstairs,” said Christle Feagin, executive director of the Texas Energy Museum. “Water was coming in through the ceiling, and it had pooled all over the beautiful hardwood floors.”
