COLUMBUS, Ohio — On a holiday traditionally reserved for rest, celebration and honoring workers, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in downtown Columbus Monday to protest what they call the growing influence of billionaires over American politics and what they see as threats to workers’ rights and democracy.
The protest, held at McFerson Commons near Lower.com Field, was part of a nationwide “Day of Action” organized by a grassroots coalition called 50501 — short for “50 protests, 50 states, one movement.” Roughly 35 sister events were planned across Ohio, with participants calling out policies from the Trump administration they say have disproportionately harmed working-class communities.
