ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – As we inch closer to election day, a local advocacy group wants to hear how City Council candidates will improve life for cyclists. This comes after over a dozen pedestrians and cyclists have been hit by cars so far this year.

"There have been several high-profile cyclist deaths, which has been very unfortunate over the last year, but it's not a new issue," said BikeABQ President Patrick Martin.

At least 19 people have been hit by cars in Albuquerque over the last year, nine of whom are cyclists who have been hit and killed, according to Albuquerque Police.

"Albuquerque has rated among the deadliest cities in terms of pedestrian, cyclists, and even motorists' deaths in the country," said Martin.
