MODESTO, Calif. —
Stanislaus County is mourning the sudden death of one of its sheriff's office K-9s.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office on Sunday announced the death of K-9 Zero, who died while undergoing surgery following a medical emergency.
K-9 Zero was a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois who had served the department since January 2024. The sheriff's office said he was trained in patrol and narcotics detection.
On Tuesday, the sheriff's office said there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area as they escort K-9 Zero from Standiford Emergency Veterinary Clinic to a pet mortuary in Turlock.
"Please be assured this is a ceremonial procession to honor his service, not related to any law enforcement activity," the sheriff's office said in a post on social media.
