CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. -- If you plan on driving across Washington on Highway 97 this month, you might want to double-check your route due to an upcoming tunnel closure.

According to Chelan County Sheriff's Office, the Knapps Hill Tunnel, located on Highway 97A, six miles southwest of Chelan, will be closed from September 8-24 so crews can replace and update the tunnel's lighting.

WSDOT said the new lights will improve visibility in the tunnel and allow light to grow or dim depending on the brightness outside.

The tunnel will be closed 24-hours a day, starting at 8 a.m. on September 8. During the closure, two detours will be available:

- Travel between Entiat and Chelan: US-97A to SR 971/Navarre Coulee Road-Lakeshore Drive to US97A

-Travel between Wenatchee and Chelan: US97, connecting
