DVLA warning as drivers could be fined after September change
Many drivers continue to be unclear on the rules around registrations and plate display, car valuation experts have warned.
This comes as, since yesterday (September 1, 2025), new vehicles began carrying the latest 75 registration plates. Getting rules wrong can mean a fine of up to £1,000or an MOT failure, those at an online car selling platform warned.
A spokesman from BigWantsYourCar.com said: "With the 75 plates about to roll out, it is still worrying that many motorists do not fully understand their number plates. Knowing what the letters and numbers mean is useful, but the key is making sure the plate meets the rules so your car stays road legal."
Number plates are updated twice a year, on March 1 and September 1.
