Alabama football tried something new with Ryan Williams in its 2025 season opener. Maybe you noticed it. Maybe you didn’t.

After Williams lined up wide for most of 2024, he spent most of his time in Tallahassee this past Saturday in the slot.

The sophomore logged 89% of his snaps in the slot against Florida State, per Pro Football Focus’ charting. That’s a colossal leap from the 18% of his snaps he spent in the slot in 2024.

The experiment didn’t pay off much in the first game. Williams caught five passes for only 30 yards. He also dropped three passes, per PFF. Then Williams got hurt late in the fourth quarter with a concussion.
