LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - More than 70 million Americans have a criminal record that can create substantial impediments to employment and economic stability. Due to prior arrests or convictions, there are legal and regulatory restrictions that prevent these individuals from having access to employment, housing, voting, education, and other basic opportunities.

But for those who meet certain criteria , Calcasieu Parish is offering the opportunity to expunge their charges.

The Lake Charles City Court and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office will be holding an expungement opportunity, with applications being available starting today, Sept. 2.
