Three people were killed in a residential fire on Labor Day in Sioux County.

The Granville Fire Department responded to a fire around 5 a.m., Sept. 1, on 430th Street, roughly two miles northwest of Granville.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the residence was filled with heavy smoke, with four people inside in critical condition. The individuals were transported to Orange City Area Health. One person died in Orange City while three others were flown to specialty units for further treatment. Two of the individuals later died as a result of their injuries, according to a news release from Sioux County.

The names of the individuals have yet to be released as the investigation is still ongoing, and officials are notifying family members.
