DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The ex-boyfriend of a woman killed in a DeKalb County apartment fire has been arrested and accused of setting the blaze, according to police.

The Chambers County Sheriff's Office took 44-year-old Shawn Fails into custody during a traffic stop on Monday in Lanett, Alabama, on the border with Georgia next to Troup County.

A woman died and a man was hospitalized after the fire broke out around 1 a.m. at The Hills at Fairington complex south of I-20 near Stonecrest.

According to a release from the county fire service, firefighters arrived at the scene and saw "heavy flames coming from a second-story apartment window" with the residents jumping from it.
