CHAMBLEE, Ga. — A mother and her two children were critically injured after being hit by a car while crossing a busy Gwinnett County highway on Monday, according to police.

Chamblee Police said that witnesses told them that the woman, her 5-year-old and 11-year-old were crossing Buford Highway in front of the City Farmers Market when they were hit around 9 p.m.

Police added that the witnesses who were behind the vehicle that hit the family did not see the woman and the children until just before the accident.

Authorities said when officers responded, they found the mother, who was bleeding from the head, the 5-year-old boy, who was not breathing and the 11-year-old boy, who had a compound fracture of his leg.
