BUXTON, N.C. — Motorists traveling north of Buxton should expect intermittent delays on N.C. Highway 12 at Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 3-4, due to a Dare County Water Department project.

Crews will cover a 700-foot section of waterline near Haulover Sound Access with fill material.

Highway 12 will be closed for about five minutes each time a truck arrives to offload material, with deliveries expected every 30 to 60 minutes. The first truck is scheduled to arrive around 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 3.

A section of beach north of the Seashore’s soundside off-road vehicle ramp 59 will also be closed while equipment is staged for the project.

Officials note the work is unrelated to impacts from Hurricane Erin.
