BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU is poised to climb in the first AP Top 25 poll of the regular season after snapping a five-game season-opening skid with a 17-10 win at No. 4 Clemson.

The updated rankings will be released Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT.

Defending national champion Ohio State is expected to take over the No. 1 spot after beating Texas 14-7. The Longhorns opened the year atop the preseason poll for the first time, led by quarterback Arch Manning.

For LSU, the victory marked its first season-opening win since 2019, when Joe Burrow led the Tigers to an undefeated national championship run.

In a matchup billed as a quarterback showcase between LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, it was LSU’s rebuilt defense that stole the spotlight.
