MANHATTAN AND BROOKLYN — LONGTIME NEW YORK CITY CONGRESSMEMBER JERROLD NADLER, who as Judiciary Committee Chairman led three Presidential impeachments during his 34 years in office, has announced he will not run for re-election , The New York Times and other news agencies reported on Monday.
The Brooklyn-born Democrat, who in 1992 first won a seat in the House of Representatives and became one of New York’s key liberal congressmembers, told the Times that while he “hesitated” to retire at a time when he believes “President [Donald] Trump is threatening the foundations of democracy,” he observed during the last weeks of former President Joe Biden’s re-election term last year that it “was time for a changing of the guard” to a younger generation.
