Fort Wayne officials today shared their efforts to address homelessness and their plans for the future.

The city officials' letter with the details was released about a week after Fort Wayne City Councilmen Russ Jehl, R-2nd, and Scott Myers, R-4th, sent correspondence asking for the city to act. Jehl said it seems like downtown is unsafe because of the presence of people experiencing homelessness.

Jehl and Myers suggested City Attorney Malak Heiny review California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s model ordinance, which says it addresses homeless encampments “with urgency and dignity," and President Donald Trump’s executive order titled “Ending Crime and Disorder on America’s Streets.”
