A red flag warning was issued for Oregon’s Cascade Mountains on Sept. 2, including for the area of the 23,400 acre Emigrant Fire.
The forecast calls for a 20-30% chance of thunderstorms, with little rainfall, that could ignite new fires with lightning strikes. Hot, dry and unstable winds could fuel the growth of Emigrant or other blazes.
It’s the beginning of a dangerous period for wildfires across the state before a cooling trend could help moderate fires for the remainder of the season.
