The Miners football team thought they had what it took to take down reigning 3A state champion Morgan on the road Friday night. Unfortunately for Park City, they fell just short, losing 24-21.
The Miners jumped out to an early lead on a first-quarter touchdown run by safety Nikolas Morgan. Morgan assumed the role of wildcat quarterback after a shoulder/head injury sidelined starter Cole Morgan. The Trojans responded with the game’s next two scores in the late second and third quarters.
Park City would score twice more in the third and fourth quarters, eventually taking a 21-18 lead very early in the fourth; however, Morgan quarterback Owen Gilson had the winning touchdown on a one-yard rush with about seven minutes to go in the game.
