NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - The tropical wave that we've been monitoring over the last few days in the eastern tropical Atlantic is seeing an increased chance for possible formation this week.

The National Hurricane Center says the "tropical wave is located southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms."

The NHC adds that "environmental conditions remain conducive for gradual development of this system during the next several days, and a tropical depression is likely to form late this week or this weekend."

The system is forecasted to move slowly westward then accelerate west-northwestward at 15-mph into the central tropical Atlantic through early next week.
