Lacy Lakeview, TX (FOX 44) -- First responders face intense challenges on the job every day. And now, Texas lawmakers are working to make sure they receive stronger mental-health support.

House Bill 35 is a step forward in making sure those who keep us safe also have the support they need to stay healthy on and off the clock.

"Every day our officers are having to go out and deal with lesser events, traumatic events," Lacy Lakeview Police Department Detective Tyler Ziegler said. "It could range very greatly over that 8, 10, 12-hour shift. It's very important for us to seek support for our mental health as well when we're dealing with these vicarious traumas."
